Employee Spotlight | Meet Jennifer Clarke

March 6, 2020

We are excited to launch the Employee Spotlight Q+A series, where we introduce you to the awesome people behind the fumé family of brands. To kick-off the series and to celebrate Women’s History Month, we are focusing on some of the women who play essential roles at fumé, and who help shape our diverse culture.

What’s your favorite kind of food?

I love Meditteranean-style cuisine. I like that there are lots of options and variety in Mediterranean cuisine and generally, the food is really fresh and just feels healthier.

What was your first job?

When I was 13, I set up and ran a fruit and vegetable stand in Hanover, VA. I guess healthy eating started with me at a young age.

What’s your favorite book? Movie?

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand is at the top of my list. But, I also absolutely love Out of Africa by Karen Blixen and The Color Purple by Alice Walker.

What’s on your bucket list?

I want to live in another country, ideally France.

Red or black licorice?

A typical weekend for me is…

I try and recharge my mind and body on the weekends. My job demands a lot of me, and I need to be ready for anything during the week, so on the weekends, I make sure to take care of myself. I make time for a yoga class–I used to teach yoga so I can put myself through a routine at home if I don’t have time to take a class–or attend a pilates class.

I am fortunate enough to live close to one of the oldest natural hot springs in California. I love using the natural hot and cold springs as a form of contrast therapy, which is said to help reduce muscle tension and inflammation. This type of thermal stress can boost your immune system. Otherwise, you can find me in my garden, hanging out with my animals, or reading a good book with a hot cup of tea.

If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I would have to say Sojourner Truth–who was an American Women’s Right activist–because she’s was such a badass.

How do you relax after a hard day’s work?

I take a deep breath – it’s incredible what a few deep breaths can do for you. Sometimes I will imbibe in a good old fashioned smoke sess and get in the kitchen and cook up some delicious food. After dinner, I walk my dog, or if I am pet sitting, which I often do, I walk the pack of dogs. I usually wind down each night with a good book.

What is one thing people don’t know about you?

Ha! Like I’m gonna tell you. 😉

What are you looking forward to in the coming months?

I want to spend more time with friends and family, and I am planning a trip to Europe.

What’s your preferred type of cannabis product?

What’s your favorite strain?

Lemon Sour Diesel

Where do you see the cannabis industry in the next 5 years? 10 years?

I hope the industry normalizes like the tobacco and alcohol industries have.

Describe your typical day at fumé.

Exciting and busy. I manage the Cultivation team and the Distribution team for fumé, so it’s a neverending cycle from preparing the gardens, planting the gardens, harvest, trimming the flower, selling flower to distributors, procuring flower for our own brands, etc. My days are packed and there is little downtime for me. I like to keep busy at work, so it’s a good fit for me. Plus, I love the people I work with, they are really hard-working and good people.

What’s your favorite thing about working at fumé?

It has to be the team. This fantastic team never shy away from hard work, they are honest, and you can always find a smile in the crowd, which spreads quickly.
