Dads of LAKEGRADE | What do you Love About Being a Dad?

June 21, 2020

Father’s Day is more than just about grilling and giving cool gifts. In 1972, Richard Nixon signed a proclamation making it a federal holiday, and since then, it’s a day dedicated to honoring fatherhood and the role dads play in society. And, we don’t just celebrate paternal fathers, but also stepdads and those who have stepped up in a child’s life to become a father figure. We have some rockstar dads behind the LAKEGRADE brand, so we decided to have a few of them to tell us about their kids and what they love best about being a dad. Enjoy and Happy Father’s Day!

I am a father of two awesome children, Olivia and Cameryn. I love taking my kids on adventures whether it’s outside catching snakes, hiking in the woods, or just reading a book together. We are a team that listens to one another and any idea or question is a good one. My favorite part of being a dad is knowing I am Superman in their eyes and giving them the best answers to whatever they ask. And most importantly, I just love being called “Dad”!

I am a father of four. My oldest son is 26 followed by my daughter 22 and two younger boys 15 and 13. I love having the opportunity to teach my children love and respect and watching them grow into amazing human beings. I learn from them too. Especially from my 15-year-old who is a two-time cancer survivor and has taught me so much about grace and perseverance. And on a side note, I have been told I make the best French toast by each one of them as they became old enough to say it.

Having little humans look up to you with zero judgment and just expecting you to love them is the most empowering thing I’ve ever felt. I’m guiding my daughters through all their “firsts”—from their first words and foods to their first day at school and first time riding a bike. Seeing this all occur in real-time and through their eyes is an incredible experience. Watching them develop and learn and mature is so awesome. I never knew I could love so much. In the blink of an eye, my life changed when my first daughter was born. It no longer was about me.  Everything in my life shifted and it all became about them. Fatherhood is my greatest accomplishment, and I have no idea what I’m doing!

From the day they were born, they have each had their own unique and individual personalities. I watched with wonder as those initial personalities evolved. My two daughters are now young women forging their way in the world and it brings me nearly inexpressible joy that they approach life with an irresistible passion for their deeply held values. They are both seeking to make the world a better place and there is not much more one can ask for as a parent.
