Employee Spotlight | Meet Sarah Collins

SARAH COLLINS | ASST. GENERAL MANAGER, DELIVERY DEPOT

What’s your favorite kind of food?

I think it’s about the aroma for me when it comes to food. I love a good French Dip, mostly because of the dipping broth (aka au jus). It’s just so delicious! Also, I love fresh strawberries. They are so simple and full of flavor.

What was your first job?

My first job was working with senior citizens who received in-home care. I helped them with day-to-day tasks, simple chores, and sometimes it was just about listening to them or holding a hand. There can be a sense of isolation when people are homebound and I found that talking and listening as well as assisting with light physical activity really helped lift their mood and kept them feeling engaged with the world. It was such a sweet experience and very rewarding for me.

What’s your favorite book? Movie?

Of Mice and Men is definitely one of my favorite books. As far as a favorite movie, I’d have to go with Hocus Pocus because I’m a kid at heart and c’mon, Bette Midler is hysterical.

What’s on your bucket list?

Once the kids are older, I want to go traveling with my husband. I want to visit all the famous cities in the US, go on camping trips in all of our beautiful state parks, maybe try skydiving once or twice, and I definitely want to try scuba diving. I am half Cherokee and a quarter German and Irish, so I’d love to visit Arkansas, Germany, and Ireland to learn more about my heritage.

Red or black licorice?

Red

A typical weekend for me is…

I like fixing things so we spend time working on our house and in our garden, but my priority is spending time with my husband and kids.

How do you relax after a hard day’s work?

What’s relaxing? Just kidding. 😉 After work, I pick up the kids, make dinner, bathe the kids, and get them situated for school the following day. I read to my son each night and stay with him until he falls asleep; He’s only three and he’s scared of the dark. Once he’s in dreamland, I get myself ready for the following day. Then I try and relax a bit before turning in. I think sleep is very important and try to get to bed before 10 pm.

What is one thing people don’t know about you?

Here are a few things. I have severe anxiety and PTSD. When I was younger, I was in a coma for two months at Oakland Children’s Hospital. And, on March 23, I will be 11 years clean from drugs 😊❤.

What are you looking forward to in the coming months?

Looking forward to spending more time with my family, and contributing to the growth here at fumé.

What’s your preferred type of cannabis product (e.g., edibles, flower, pre-rolls, dabs, etc.)?

I am all about CBD products, specifically creams and gel caps. There are so many proven benefits of CBD. It helps relieve stress, inflammation, reduces anxiety, and helps improve your sleep quality. There are even studies that show that CBD can help to lower blood sugars in people with diabetes. There are so many health benefits with CBD and now that it’s no longer an illegal substance, I think we will see it used more and more as a treatment over prescription drugs.

Where do you see the cannabis industry in the next 5 years? 10 years?

I hope to see cannabis being widely-accepted across the health industry as a treatment option. This is very important to me as I just recently went through a health scare and was able to use CBD products for relief, so I have learned and experienced the benefits first-hand.

Describe your typical day at fumé…

My job is to make sure that our fleet of drivers are cleared, stocked, and prepared for their shifts. I take personal pride in making sure they have what they need to hit the road and have a successful day. I check in with my inventory team to make sure they are aware of any promotions we have running and let them know what needs to be moved into inventory. I personally launch each driver so I spend time making sure their cars are working properly, they have full tanks of gas, and that they are aware of any details needed to deliver the best customer experience we can. I have spent a good amount of time working on processes and procedures to make sure the drivers and my team are efficient and effective but mostly that they are happy and feel like they are part of the fumé family. It’s a good feeling when I get a high five or can get a laugh out of them; even when things are really busy.

What’s your favorite thing about working at fumé?

It would have to be the diversity across the team. Everyone plays an important role at fumé, and we all work really well together. The processes and procedures help to make everything run smoothly, even when the craziness arises, and it always does. We are interacting with technology, customers, a fleet of cars, and the open road. There’s never a dull day here at fumé, but we have a great team that knows how to get things done and make things happen. It doesn’t feel like ‘just’ a team, it feels like we are family.
